What Is Success?

Standard
     One of summer intensive courses started today. I take some courses at a unversity every summer. My teacher is a handsome(?) Australian guy in his 40’s. This is my third time to take his class, which is for improving to express own opinion.
     Today he gave us a handout. It was a poem entitled "What Is Success?" written by Ralph Waldo Emerson, who was American poet, essayst and philosopher. His words encourage me. I’ll pin the handout on the wall later…

     "What Is Success?"

To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people
     and the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics
     and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty;
To find the best in others;
To leave the world a bit better,
     whether by a healthy child, a garden
     patch or a redeemed social condition;
To know even one life ha s breathed easier
     because you have lived;
This is to have succeeded.

           -Ralph Waldo Emerson
